What is a Professional Manicure?

A professional manicure is a treatment for your fingernails, cuticles and hands you’ll have in a beauty salon. Your nails will be expertly trimmed, filed and shaped into whichever shape you prefer. Then, your cuticles will be pushed back, tidied and moisturized to keep them healthy. Next, you’ll enjoy an indulgent hand massage to keep your skin healthy and hydrated. Finally the Nail Colour of our choice will be add.

It can be tempting to try to do your own manicure at home, rather than going to a salon. But by doing this you’re missing out on the wonderful added treatments such as cuticle care and massage. Plus, the perfect layer of polish takes a long time to master. That’s why a DIY manicure never looks quite as good as a professional one done by a trained technician.

If you’re unsure, it’s definitely worth coming into the salon to try out a professional manicure for yourself. We’re confident that once you’ve tried it, you’ll never go back!

Why have a manicure?

Whether you’re a man or woman, manicures are the perfect treatment for maintaining healthy skin, nails and cuticles. Whichever profession you’re in, people immediately notice the condition of your hands and nails – more so if they’re not well taken care of.

Having your hands and nails taken care of by a professional keeps your hands looking healthy and clean every day, at a level that is incredibly difficult to maintain yourself at home.

Plus, pampering yourself is a great way to destress and relax, especially if you have a demanding job or are busy raising children. Self-care is incredibly important and something most of us neglect but a manicure is an easy way to fit some self-care into your busy schedule.

Finally, although you don’t need to have nail colour during you manicure, it can be the perfect way to express your personality. Each appointment, you can try out new colors and patterns that stand out and get you noticed. This is also perfect for summer holidays, celebrations, and events throughout the year.

How long will my manicure take?

Manicures range from 60-75 minutes, depending on the treatment you go for. A quick manicure might include trimming, filing, shaping and buffing.

Also, if you go for Veneer/Gel polish, this can take a little longer to dry under an LED lamp, so it will extend the appointment time. Your technician will be able to let you know how long the appointment will take when they book you in so you know how long to put down in your diary.

The Benefits of Manicures

1. They keep your hands looking beautifully polished
Your hands are constantly on show throughout the day and they are what people see when you meet for the first time with a handshake. Because of this, it’s important to keep your hands looking their best. Dirty, chipped nails don’t make a great first impression, especially in a professional setting. A regular manicure will help keep your hands looking clean and polished for a good first impression.

2. They give you confidence
Having a manicure boosts confidence. Just like wearing your favourite pair of heels, having a manicure instantly makes you feel put together and ready for anything. This boost in confidence is an amazing feeling to have every single day.

3. Improve Nail Health
Having regular manicures will improve your fingernail health, promote faster nail growth and keep your cuticles moisturized. Coming to the salon for manicures regularly will also help prevent nasty nail disorders and diseases. This is because your professional technician will be able to spot the signs and inform you of steps to prevent them before they become a major issue.

Now you won’t have to worry about infections or other issues that can be painful and unsightly. Conditions commonly prevented include fungal nail infections, thickened nails, brittle nails, and curved nails.

4. Keep nails and skin soft and rejuvenated
When most people think of a manicure, they think of a layer or two of nail polish, but there is so much more that goes into this treatment. Exfoliating the hands removes dead skin cells and keeps hands looking soft and healthy. Also, a massage will help ease aches and pains and make your hands and wrists feel relaxed as well as providing a much need session of stress relief.

Also, the cuticles and nail beds are treated with moisturizers that hydrate to keep them strong and healthy. The nail polish used is the highest quality and has ingredients that help promote quicker, healthier nail growth.

5. Save time and effort
Filing your own nails and applying nail polish is time-consuming, messy and stressful. Not to mention it never comes out as well as a professional manicure. Perhaps the most annoying part is the polish chipping almost immediately.

When you go for a professional manicure, it looks amazing and lasts up to four weeks with good aftercare. The extra treatments make it a wonderfully relaxing experience and it takes one more thing off your to-do list.

You’ll be able to proudly bare your hands knowing they look fabulous and the compliments you’ll get on your beautiful nails are just an added bonus.

6. Prevent annoying hangnails
The annoying bits of skin that stick out at the side of your nails are hangnails. They usually happen because of dry hands, nail biting, injury or improper cutting of the nails.

The good news is having a regular manicure will prevent these from happening. Because your technician will moisturize your hands and nails and coat them with protective polish, chips and hangnails become a thing of the past.

7. Improve blood circulation
Having massages with moisturizers and oils improve blood circulation in the hands and arms as well as promoting proper circulation of the lymphatic system. This will help prevent swelling, cold extremities, and relieve tension and pain. This can be especially beneficial for those who suffer from arthritis or have diabetes.

8. Reduce dry skin build-up
Dead skin builds up every seven days which leads to flaking, dryness and irritation. A regular manicure will help remove the dead skin and prevent discoloration of the hands. Over time, this will help keep the hands looking younger and healthier.

9. Help reduce nail biting
If you can’t seem to kick your nail-biting habit, regular manicures could be the answer. By having several coats of high-quality nail polish applied, the nails are much harder and stronger. This means biting them off isn’t as easy. Plus, seeing your nails looking beautiful will be the motivation you need to stop biting them off.

10. Promote healthy nail growth
Do you struggle to grow your nails? Some people find it tough to grow their nails and are usually left with sometimes painfully short nails. Getting a regular manicure will help the natural nail underneath grow quicker and stronger. The protective layer of polish helps keep the nail safe and the quality ingredients give the nail bed the nourishment it needs to promote stronger, healthier growth. Over time, this will help prevent brittle, soft nails and promote strong, healthy long nails you’re proud to show off.

How to Look After Your Manicured Nails

Once you’ve left the salon, there are a few steps you can take at home to ensure your manicure lasts as long as possible:

  • Wear gloves whenever doing something messy such as gardening, housework or dishes – you don’t want your nails getting dirty or being submerged in hot soapy water.
  • Use hand cream regularly to keep your hands hydrated but avoid the nails themselves.
  • Never use metal files – if you must file your own nail at home, use a gentle file
  • Drink plenty of water – this will help keep you hydrated and stop your skin drying out.
  • Avoid harsh and drying soaps – these will dry out your hands and may damage your nails.

To keep your manicure looking its best, you should come back for regular manicures every two to four weeks. During this appointment, you can have maintenance to keep your manicure looking brand new as well as indulge in other treatments to keep you feeling your best.
